Apart from heat loss, the solar in-ground pool covers prevent the chemicals in the water from evaporating along with it. This means that you will save on your water bill. In addition, you will have to add chemicals to the water less often. This solution is cost-effective, but, more importantly, you will save a lot of time and effort. Perhaps the main benefit of this function of the solar cover is that your pool will remain cleaner. As the chemicals will not evaporate quickly, the water will be safe from the formation of bacteria. No debris or leaves will fall in the tank either.
Extreme cantilever is another option. With this method, a free form design is maintained throughout the build. This is accomplished by building the pool as you would for a pool in pool application and then with forms placed from the track to the edge of the freeform pool, concrete decking is poured to finished elevation. After the forms are removed there is a four to six inch notch for the cover to travel through. In some cases the tracks have been as far as four feet from the water’s edge.
While almost eliminating water evaporation, a pool cover also reduces the amount of chlorine required to keep the pool in balance. If there is an automatic salt water chlorinator in use, the amount of time this has to run is also reduced, saving power. This is because; a pool loses a large amount of its chlorine through the action of evaporation. With the evaporation almost eliminated, the loss of chlorine is also reduced along with the cost of replenishment.
